Deeds done in compassion must be an integral component of the Christian Life. We are committed to having our actions speak louder than our words. One of our core missions in reaching out is THE ORPHAN & THE WIDOW. For the past 12 years we have partnered with the Villages of Hope in Zambia in four distinct ways.

  • We sponsor over 50 children monthly which enables them to have food, education, the security of a home with a surrogate house mother, and nutritious meals.
  • We raise funds to construct more homes and classrooms at newly developed sites.
  • We provide funds for microloan projects for widows to empower them to break the cycle of poverty.
  • We have taken a team to travel there to strengthen the partnerships.

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this; to look after orphans and widows in their distress.” James 1:27 (Bible) This resonates deeply at Highway Christian Fellowship and we have formed a strong partnership with Villages of Hope Africa. Over the past decade we have funded the construction of new homes in Kitwe Zambia which house 12 children each. Teams have been sent to assist with the building. In addition we have supported over 60 children in their monthly sponsorship program. This gives the children a true hope to break the poverty cycle through education, a safe warm home environment, spiritual and physical care as well as a post High School program which trains for employable skills. We have personally witnessed the graduates of Village of Hope moving from the dire circumstances of being orphaned to becoming integrated into their society as successful and contributing members who are making a positive difference. We have an ongoing commitment to financially support the Villages of Hope Africa.

Sergio and Nancy are the Directors of Villages of Hope (VOH) - Africa currently providing care to orphaned and vulnerable children in eight African locations: Burundi, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia (Chongwe, Kitwe, Mongu) and Zimbabwe. VOH brings "Hope for Today, Tomorrow and Eternity" by providing education, health care, feeding programs and when necessary housing. The gospel message is at the centre of all that is done. Their main responsibilities include providing training and support for the leadership at each VOH location and ensuring that best practices are being followed so that all of the children are receiving the best possible care. Working very closely with national leadership, the Bersaglios work to develop strong Christian leaders at each VOH location to ensure that the ministry is sustainable and well managed and that all children are loved and cared for.

Ministry history: Sergio and Nancy moved to Kitwe, Zambia where the first VOH was established, in April 1999.
